What is spot dye sublimation?
Spot dye sublimation applies graphics onto pre-made garments. This method is more cost-effective while still delivering a premium-quality product.
However, there are some limitations. Because the design is printed onto an existing shirt, graphics can only be placed in specific areas such as the chest, back, or sleeves. Additionally, dye sublimation printers do not print white ink, which means white graphics cannot be printed using spot dye sublimation, nor can light graphics on dark colored shirt - which is why spot dye shirt color options are lighter colored shirts. If you want light colored graphics on a dark shirt or patterns all over the shirt all over dye sublimation would be the way to go.
For this reason, spot sublimation works best on light-colored fishing shirts and is ideal for simpler designs like logos or minimal branding.
Best for:
- Logos and designs when you only need graphics on certain parts of the shirt, like front, left chest and a strip down each art
- Can change the color of the custom fishing shirts within the same print run as long as the graphics are identical.

What is all over dye sublimation?
Full dye sublimation, also known as cut & sew sublimation, starts from scratch. Instead of printing onto a finished shirt, the design and garment color are printed at the same time onto premium white performance fabric before the shirt is constructed.
The fabric is then cut and sewn into a final, retail-quality fishing shirt. Because the design is printed onto white fabric, the printer can use the base material in place of white ink—allowing for unlimited color combinations and full garment coverage.
This process enables complete creative freedom, including designs that cover the entire shirt, sleeves, hood, and seams. Think of all over dye sublimated custom fishing shirts as a blank canvas.
